Two Sounds Hiding Behind One English Spelling: TH
Hungarian doesn't have this sound at all, so your tongue naturally reaches for the closest match — and that's exactly what gives the accent away.
When you see 'th' in English, your tongue probably wants to say d, z, or v instead, because Hungarian simply has no equivalent sound. But English actually hides two different th sounds: a quiet one in 'think' and a buzzy one in 'this.' Both are made the same simple way — rest your tongue tip lightly between your top and bottom teeth and push air past it. Try these pairs out loud: think/sink, this/dis, birthday/birfday. Notice how the meaning can completely change if you swap the sound. Here's your two-minute task: stand in front of a mirror and say 'this, that, think, thanks' slowly, watching your tongue tip actually appear between your teeth each time. It will feel strange at first — that's normal! Give it a few tries today, and this small habit will start feeling natural before you know it.
